School and Work: Addressing barriers in the young adult labor market

CSS and JobsFirstNYC present and discuss our recent report, Barriers to Entry: Fewer Out-of-School and Out-of-Work Young Adults, As Warning Signs Emerge.

Our joint study finds that compared to five years ago, New York City is home to far fewer young adults who are neither in school nor work. But those who have been able to re-connect to work have only been able to do so through low-paying, part-time jobs. And increases in school enrollment are accompanied by a rise in college non-completion.

We discuss how New York City can take advantage of improvements in the out-of-school, out-of-work young adult population while addressing new challenges.
